Communities and Knowledges: Toward a Situated, Participatory and Decolonial Academic Praxis

International Conference | Universidad de Costa Rica & York University
San José, Costa Rica | July 8–10, 2026

This international conference, brings together scholars, students, artists, activists, professionals, and community partners from across Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean, the event explores collaborative, participatory, and decolonial approaches to knowledge.

Sponsored by our institutional partners, the conference invites participants from diverse fields—including environmental studies, social sciences, humanities, arts, education, and beyond—to examine the relationships between communities and academia. Contributions aligned with the thematic axes, such as participatory methodologies, epistemic diversity, decolonial praxis, collaborative storytelling, and community-engaged research, are especially encouraged.

Information sessions

We offer several information sessions throughout the year, and all students are welcome to attend. These sessions provide an overview of our Costa Rica EcoCampus and courses, an opportunity to meet instructors and ask questions, and important details about costs and requirements. Attendance is recommended but not mandatory; however, missing a session does not excuse missed deadlines or requirements.
