Award Description
The Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change (EUC) is currently recruiting candidates for the Howard Daugherty International Award in Neotropical Conservation. The successful candidate of this award will support EUC’s research related to Neotropical conservation that is undertaken in the vicinity of the Las Nubes Biological Reserve in Costa Rica and/or that contributes to meeting the goals of the Las Nubes Project.
VALUE AND DURATION:
- Up to 3 awards of up to $10,000 (The value and number of award(s) in any given year will depend on the rate of distribution from the endowment fund and the number of recipients selected)
- Non-renewable
ELIGIBILITY:
- A minimum "B” average (GPA 6.00)
- International students with a student visa
- Proposed research related to Neotropical conservation that underlines the goals of the Las Nubes Project.

Award Description
The Howard Daugherty Graduate Award in Neotropical Conservation is available to graduate students, at the Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change, York University, to support their research related to Neotropical conservation that is undertaken in the vicinity of the Las Nubes Biological Reserve in Costa Rica and/or that contributes to meeting the goals of the Las Nubes Project. Recipients must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons, residents of Ontario and must demonstrate financial need.
VALUE:
- If awarded to Master’s: Up to $12,500*
- If awarded to Doctoral: 1 award at up to $25,000 or two awards at up to $12,500*

- Master's or doctoral student
- Research related to Neotropical conservation that is undertaken in the vicinity of the Las Nubes Biological Reserve in Costa Rica
- Research that contributes to meeting the goals of the Las Nubes Project.

SELECTION PROCESS:
Program applications with complete documentation are due twice a year (November 21 and February 21):

- The Las Nubes Program will also identify potential nominees and forward nomination packages to The Faculty of Graduate Studies Awards Committee to review nominees for eligibility.

Award Description
The GSA offers a variety of funds for graduate student members. These funds are not meant to be a primary source of graduate student funding, but serve as a small additional aid.
Conference Support Fund
This fund is for students who are presenting or chairing sessions at conferences. This fund is not for students who are only attending conferences and it is not meant to be a primary source of funding for conferences. The average amount of funding is $100.
Thesis Support Fund Application
This fund is designed to help defray the costs involved in MA and Ph.D. theses or major papers. Expenses covered under this fund include the costs of supplies, materials, services, etc expended on the project. Purchases of reusable/resaleable items such as computers, books and journals WILL NOT be covered. The average amount of funding is $100.
Skills Development Support Application
This fund is for projects which help students develop overall skills in relation to their programme of study such as voluntary internships or apprenticeships, language training courses, or other training/education courses not offered at York. This fund is NOT intended to cover costs associated with academic conferences but is for practical, skills-based training or other applied forms of skill development. The average amount of funding is $100.
